Using income inequality as a measure of political ideology

Courtesy Dani Rodrik, here is American politics in one picture:

It's from this new book by Larry Bartels, an economist at Princeton.

You'll notice I touched up the original by using the font feature in MS Paint to overlay new fonts on the scanned version, which was a little rough. I did my best to align the values with the hash marks, and I obviously did not move the data points, just darkened the lines a little.

Krugman's blog yesterday noted that the lack of a mechanism is daunting to some who would challenge the "correlation vs. causation" issue here.

Hilarious: whitehouse.org

I found this on whitehouse.org and had to share it:
President Addresses Nation on the Way Forward to Surging Back Towards Desperately Spinning the Clusterfuck That is Vietraq

THE PRESIDENT: Good evening. In the life of all imperialistic military empires, there come brief, fleeting moments that decide the direction of a multinational corporation masquerading as a democratic nation, and reveal the character of its blue-blooded aristocrats, conniving religious hucksters and corrupt, back-slapping robber barons. We have now been suspended in such a moment for over six calendar years.
